TikTok Creator Rewards Program Explained

Who qualifies, which videos earn and what decides how much TikTok pays.

By · Updated October 20, 2026 · 9 min read

The TikTok Creator Rewards Program pays creators from TikTok for qualified views on original videos longer than one minute. TikTok currently lists five entry requirements: you are 18 or older, you have at least 10,000 followers, your videos got at least 100,000 views in the last 30 days, your personal account is in good standing, and you live in a country where the program runs.

Creator Rewards replaced the old Creator Fund, and the separate Creativity Program was folded into it. At Earn by Creating, we check program rules against TikTok’s published guidance and date every guide. TikTok does not publish a fixed rate per view, so this guide explains what moves your payout instead of quoting a number that would not apply to your account.

Creator Rewards Requirements at a Glance

You qualify for Creator Rewards when every line in this table is true for your account. TikTok shows your progress against each one in TikTok Studio.

The follower count is the requirement most people watch, but the 30-day view total can also hold you back. An account with 10,000 followers that posted little last month can fall short of 100,000 recent views. Post steadily in the month before you apply.

The views also need to be real. Buying followers or views breaks TikTok’s rules, and the US Federal Trade Commission’s rule on fake reviews and testimonials, in force since October 21, 2024, bans buying or selling fake social media indicators such as followers and views. Accounts caught doing it risk losing eligibility.

Which Videos Earn and Which Do Not

Creator Rewards pays for original videos longer than one minute. That one-minute line is the biggest change for creators used to short clips. A 40-second video can still bring followers and views that help you qualify, but it does not earn rewards itself.

Original means the video is your own content. In practice, these formats are the ones creators report trouble with:

  • Reposted clips from films, TV, sports or other creators
  • Compilations stitched together from other people’s videos
  • Slideshows and photo posts, which are not videos longer than a minute
  • Duets and stitches where most of the screen time is someone else’s video
  • Low-effort loops padded past one minute with no new content

What tends to qualify is the kind of video you would make anyway for a one-minute-plus audience: a tutorial, a story with a clear point, a review with your own commentary, a day-in-the-life with a reason to keep watching. If you use AI tools to help make a video, label realistic AI content the way TikTok asks. TikTok labels AI-generated content and requires creators to label realistic AI content.

How TikTok Calculates Creator Rewards

TikTok pays per qualified view, and the value of each view is not fixed. TikTok describes the program as weighting factors such as originality, play duration, search value and audience engagement. Put simply:

  • Originality. Your own idea, footage and voice count for more than reused material.
  • Play duration. Viewers who watch most of the video signal value. A one-minute video that people leave after five seconds earns less than its view count suggests.
  • Search value. Videos that answer what people type into TikTok search can earn more, because they keep paying as people find them later.
  • Audience engagement. Comments, shares and saves show the video mattered to the people who watched.

You will see sites quote a “TikTok RPM” or a pay per 1,000 views. Treat those as one creator’s results, not a rate. Pay varies by niche, audience location, video length and season, and TikTok does not publish a single figure. Once you join, TikTok Studio shows your own rewards per video, which is the only number worth planning with.

The practical lesson: a video built to be searched and watched to the end tends to beat a video built for a quick spike. Titles that match a real question, a clear payoff in the first seconds and a reason to stay until the end all help.

How to Join the Creator Rewards Program

You apply inside the app once you meet the requirements:

  1. Open TikTok Studio. Go to your profile and open TikTok Studio from the menu.
  2. Find the monetization tools. Look for Creator Rewards Program in the list of monetization features.
  3. Check eligibility. TikTok shows which requirements you meet and which you still need.
  4. Apply. Read the program terms, then submit. TikTok reviews the application before you can earn.
  5. Set up payments. Add your payment and tax details so rewards can be paid out. Check the payout settings for your country, including any minimum balance before you can withdraw.

If you are not eligible yet, TikTok Studio tells you which line you are missing. Recent views are often the missing line.

Creator Rewards vs Other Ways to Earn on TikTok

Creator Rewards is one income stream on TikTok, and for many creators it is not the biggest one. This table compares the main options.

Brand deals do not wait for 10,000 followers. Small brands pay focused accounts directly, and our guide on how to get brand deals on TikTok covers the pitch. TikTok’s own marketplace is covered in our TikTok Creator Marketplace guide. If you want to compare TikTok with YouTube before you commit, see YouTube vs TikTok for new creators.

How to Reach 10,000 Followers and 100,000 Views

If you are not eligible yet, work on the two numbers that hold you back:

  • Post in one niche. Followers come when people know what the next video will be about.
  • Make some videos longer than a minute now. You will need them to earn later, and practicing the format early tells you whether your audience watches that long.
  • Post on a schedule you can keep. The 30-day view total rewards steady posting more than one viral week.
  • Use searchable topics. Answer questions people type into TikTok search, which keeps old videos getting views.
  • Never buy followers or views. Fake numbers can cost you eligibility and break the FTC’s rule on fake social media indicators.

Taxes on Creator Rewards Income

In the US, Creator Rewards income is self-employment income. Self-employment tax is 15.3% (12.4% Social Security plus 2.9% Medicare) on net earnings once those earnings reach $400, and you may need to make quarterly estimated payments using Form 1040-ES. The Modern Wallet explains how much to set aside from each payout. This is general information, so talk to a tax professional about your own situation.

Who Should Not Plan Around Creator Rewards

If your best videos are 15 to 30 seconds and your audience leaves longer ones early, Creator Rewards will pay little even after you qualify. Brand deals or UGC work will likely earn more for you, and neither depends on video length. If you make long, original, searchable videos already, apply as soon as TikTok Studio shows you eligible.

What would change this advice: if TikTok lowered the follower bar or the one-minute rule in your country, the program would move earlier in your plan. Check TikTok Studio each month, since the requirements shown there are the ones that apply to you.

Open TikTok Studio today, note which requirement you are furthest from, and plan your next 30 days of posts around closing that gap.

Frequently asked questions

How many followers do you need for the TikTok Creator Rewards Program?

TikTok currently lists 10,000 followers as the minimum, alongside 100,000 video views in the last 30 days, an age of 18 or older, a personal account in good standing and an eligible country. Check your status in TikTok Studio, because requirements can change.

How much does the TikTok Creator Rewards Program pay per 1,000 views?

TikTok does not publish a fixed rate. Your rewards depend on qualified views and on factors TikTok describes such as originality, play duration, search value and audience engagement. Figures quoted online vary widely between creators and niches, so read your own numbers in TikTok Studio once you join.

Do videos under one minute earn Creator Rewards?

No. TikTok lists original videos longer than one minute as the videos that can earn. Shorter videos still help you grow, and they count toward your follower and view totals, but they do not earn program rewards.

Is the Creator Rewards Program the same as the Creator Fund?

No. Creator Rewards replaced the Creator Fund. The Creativity Program, which also paid for longer videos, was folded into Creator Rewards, which is why search interest in the Creativity Program dropped.

Can a business account join Creator Rewards?

TikTok lists a personal account as a requirement. If you switched to a business account to use commercial music or ads tools, check in TikTok Studio whether you can switch back before you apply.

Do I have to pay tax on TikTok Creator Rewards?

In the US, Creator Rewards income is self-employment income. Self-employment tax is 15.3% on net earnings once they reach $400, and you may need quarterly estimated payments with Form 1040-ES. This is general information, not tax advice.
